Places to Visit in Alanya

Whether you want a short holiday or a long holiday, I am sure that you will not be able to finish the places to visit in Alanya. Alanya; history, nature and the city offer you everything generously.

dim tea

Dim Stream is in Kestel region, about 12 km from Alanya city centre. We provide transportation from the sea up the curved roads through the green valley. Even in the sweltering heat of summer, Dimçay's water is like ice. You can have a good time in hundreds of restaurants here and swim in the ice-cold water when it gets hot. When you are hungry, you can eat trout and other dishes in the gazebos above the water or on the tables in the water. We claim that this place is unique in the world.

Sapadere Canyon

Sapadere Canyon was discovered in 2014 in Sapadere village, 22 km east of Alanya centre. After a wonderful nature journey, you meet with the murmur of the water that cools you down. The canyon is quite large and there are small waterfalls in it. You can have lunch under the old and green plane trees at the restaurant in front of the canyon.

Alanya Cable CarThe cable car, whose construction was completed in 2017, seems to become the new symbol of Alanya. The beginning of the cable car takes you from the world-famous Cleopatra beach to Alanya castle with the unique Cleopatra beach and Alanya city view. From here, you can visit the Castle, take pictures, and when your tour is over, you can take the cable car again and go down to Cleopatra beach with this beautiful view.

Cleopatra Beach

The world-famous Cleoptara Beach was the 4th most shared beach on Instagram in 2018. Of course, there are many reasons for this, the beautiful blue flag sea, soft sand and turquoise color. If you come to Alanya, spend at least one day of your holiday at Cleopatra beach.

Damlatas cave

If you come to Cleopatra beach, is it okay not to stop by Damlataş cave? Of course not. Damlataş cave is where the Cleopatra beach begins. It was formed from stalactites as a result of the lime of the water dripping from the rains in the cave. Even on the hottest days of summer, the inside of the cave is cool. It is known that the cave is good for asthma patients. The entrance fee to the cave is 6 TL in 2019 and only 3 TL for students. When you come to Cleopatra beach, stop by here.

Alanya viewing terrace

Alanya viewing terrace is a rare place with very nice sitting areas and picnic areas where you can watch all the beauties of the city. Here you can watch the city, drink tea, take your meat and have a barbecue party.

Alanya Cuisine

Alanya is in the Mediterranean climate zone and has a 75 km coastline. It is a beautiful holiday destination in the Mediterranean, which has hosted different nations such as Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman throughout history. Especially during the Seljuk period, it gained more importance and the Seljuk ruler declared Alanya as the summer capital. That's why Alanya cuisine is rich and Mediterranean cuisine is dominant.

Alanya Local Cuisine

Since vegetables are produced abundantly in the region, the meals are mostly vegetables. The main daily dishes are fresh beans with meat, haricot beans, stuffed leaves, stuffed greens, pond, laubu, fresh okra, broad bean chard, and gulüklü soup. As for dessert, ox halva, spoon halvah, walnut baklava and curl are among the local desserts. If you want to taste local dishes while you are in Alanya, Güven Restaurant, Aran Restaurant and Esma Aban are the main local restaurants in the city center. Although it is difficult to find in restaurants, thorn squash, ox halva, and shelled beans are among the local dishes made at home.

In addition, rosehip soup is a must at weddings. It is a hearty soup made of small round meatballs, chicken pieces and rice mixture in Gülüklü soup. In addition, millet vaccine, chickpeas with meat and pilaf with meat are other local wedding dishes.

If it has a coast to the Mediterranean, is there no fish? Of course, there are also very nice fish restaurants. If you want to eat in a non-alcoholic fish restaurant, you can choose fish from daily fresh fish and have it done at the restaurants right there. Or Yegen Balik Evi in Mahmutlar and Toksöz Balik on the Gazipasa road are our recommendations. If you want a more luxurious restaurant, Marina Restaurant at Alanya pier or Leylekya Restaurant located in Alanya castle with its unique sea and city view is our recommendation for fish.

We also have good alternatives for kebab. They are very assertive about Haydar Usta's place or Oba Kosebasi kebab.

Another succulent restaurant that shopkeepers go to is minm  activate. Here you can find about 15 juicy dishes and soups per day. You may find it difficult to find a place for lunch with its friendly atmosphere and delicious food.

In Alanya, which is visited by millions of tourists every year, you can find examples of distinguished world cuisines from Indian, Far Eastern and French cuisines all over Alanya.

Historical Places of Alanya

The history of Alanya dates back to the 20th century BC. The city, which was ruled by the Persians, the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire in the first ages after the pirates, was later captured by the Anatolian Seljuks, was named "Alaiye", which means the city of Alaeddin. During this period, it became an important city as a winter capital. With the establishment of the Ottoman principality, it was included in the Ottoman lands by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in 1471. Later, with the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk decided to change the name of the city to Alanya.

Alanya Castle

Alanya castle is a historical monument that has become the symbol of Alanya. If you are entering Alanya especially in the evening hours, it offers a view that you can't get enough of with its lights as if it is suspended in the air. Alanya castle was built on a peninsula extending from the city center towards the sea and can be viewed from all parts of the city. Here, history and life are combined with restored historical houses and restaurants.

Alanya castle was built by Alaaddin Keykubat and its total length is 6.5 kilometers. The castle consists of 140 bastions and 83 towers. Entrance fee to the inner castle is 15 TL and is free for Müzekart and Maximum cards.

There is a mosque and a church inside the Alanya Castle. According to the rumor, the prisoners are thrown into the dungeon at Adam Atacak and if they can reach the sea from this point, they are released, and if they cannot, they are hanged.

Sülaymaniye Mosque, which was built in the Ottoman period and located in the Upper Castle, has been restored and still continues to be used.

Traditional Alanya House

The entrance to the traditional Alanya house is free. Inside, there is a fire-lit hearth, a bath, a republican ceiling and cabinets that we call traces. Here, hand-woven silk shawls and belts are produced. I recommend getting one while you're there.

Red Tower

Red Tower, one of the symbols of the city, is located on Alanya pier street. It was built by Alaattin Keykubat by the builder Ebu Ali Reha El Kettani from Aleppo. It got its name as the Red Tower because it was built in an octagonal shape and made of red baked bricks.

The Red Tower was built to defend against attacks from the sea.

The lower part of the Red Tower serves as the Ethnography museum. The entrance fee is 10 TL and if you have a Müzekart, you can enter for free. Once you enter here, you will be fascinated by the beautiful city and sea view of Alanya from the upper floor.

Shipyard

It is the first shipyard built by the Seljuks in the Mediterranean. It is 56 meters wide and consists of 5 eyes. You can go on foot as it is right near the Red Tower. There is no entrance fee to the shipyard.
